Mozart composed this sonata in 1781, for a private concert at which he performed it with his student, Josepha Barbara Aurnhammer, twoyears his junior (and at whose home the concert took place; they also played the double-concerto in Eb K365). He wrote the Primo Part of this Sonata for her, and it was also to her that six of his sonatas for violin and piano were dedicated (K296, and 376-380).
