At this point the rhythm section should begin to get a bit more intense in their approach to the groove and figures. At bar 46, a breakdown section gets under way with a return of the Birdland groove. Here, the tenor soloist begins with specifically written pitches. A sample solo with chord changes is provided. The following section should start building intensity around bar 98 and push toward the end of bar 105, which begins the shout section. Drums return to the rock groove at bar 132. In the final two bars, the drum fill should continue the melodic line as it occurred earlier. Appropriate for high school jazz ensembles.
