Ballad. waltz written in honor of my cat's favorite toy, Sid the Squid - a weathered, well-loved six-legged sea creature made of foam, fur, leather, and dirt that gets "hunted" around house in the wee hours of the morning. This piece sounds kind of like that. After a slow introduction alternating 7. 4 and 6. 4, the chart moves into a free-form waltz based on a repeating three-bar progression derived from an Eb augmented triad, followed by open-ended solos for any combination of bari. alto, Trombone, guitar, trumpet, and drums. The "big tune" from the introduction finally returns superimposed over the changes at the end of the solo section to round out the piece. Alto 1 and II double flute, tenor 1 doubles clarinet, bari doubles bass clarinet.
